A Warriewood childcare worker has been arrested and charged with five counts of assault against a ten-month-old baby, with police confirming the infant suffered no physical injuries.

Following reports to management, the 53-year-old female employee was dismissed from her role on Wednesday, 27 May. Detectives from the Northern Beaches Police Area Command subsequently launched an investigation into the allegations that the worker assaulted the infant on two consecutive days earlier that week. This investigation led to the arrest of the woman at a Mona Vale home on the afternoon of Thursday, 11 June. She was taken to the Manly Police Station and formally charged with five counts of common assault against the young boy.

The management stated they acted rapidly in line with their child safety policies following the report. Centre directors expressed their deep distress over the situation, noting that providing a secure and caring environment remains their absolute priority and that they understand the trust parents place in them.

They confirmed that mandatory procedures were activated right away, which included notifying the victim’s family without delay. Furthermore, the directors stated the centre reported the matter to the New South Wales Police, the Department of Education, the Office of the Children’s Guardian, and the Child Protection Helpline, alongside conducting their own internal review.

The child continues to attend the early learning centre, with staff maintaining a focus on supporting both the baby and the family. The childcare operators stated they are limited in what specific details they can share while the case is actively before the courts, but they are fully cooperating with all regulatory authorities. Meanwhile, the accused former worker has been granted conditional bail. She is scheduled to appear at the Manly Local Court on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.
