A Warriewood man already remanded in custody after allegedly attempting to flee Manly Local Court is now facing more than 30 charges spanning alleged domestic violence offences against two women — charges that could ultimately see his case moved to a higher court.
Jay Kevin Schneider, 40, first appeared before Manly Local Court on Thursday 23 July 2026, after Northern Beaches Police Area Command sought to have him remanded in custody over an alleged assault on a 20-year-old woman at a gym in Cromer three days earlier. When the court revoked his bail, Schneider allegedly ran from the courtroom onto Belgrave Street, where he was pursued and physically restrained by police and Sheriff’s officers before being taken into the holding cells at the adjacent Manly Police Station. OC spray was used during the arrest. He has remained in custody since.
When the matter returned to Manly Local Court on Tuesday 4 August 2026, police laid a substantial number of additional charges relating to alleged domestic violence offences against two women.
The original charges from the Cromer incident — one count of common assault and one count of stalking or intimidation with intent to cause fear of physical or mental harm — were joined by 12 further charges relating to alleged offending against the same woman between December 2025 and July 2026. Those additional charges include three counts each of common assault and stalking or intimidation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one count of menacing driving, one count of destroying or damaging property, and one count of intentionally choking a person without consent — the latter carrying a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and an $11,000 fine.
A separate investigation, commenced on 25 July 2026 after further information came to light, examined alleged historical domestic violence offences against a 27-year-old woman between 2024 and 2025. That inquiry resulted in a Court Attendance Notice and a further 17 charges, including seven counts of common assault, five counts of stalking or intimidation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one count of intentionally choking a person without consent, and one count of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence — the most serious individual charge, carrying a maximum of seven years’ imprisonment.
The matter was adjourned at the 4 August hearing and is next listed before Manly Local Court on Tuesday 18 August 2026. Given both the volume and nature of the charges, and the sentencing limits available to a local court, the case may ultimately be committed to a district court where greater penalties can be imposed.
