Lights, camera, action, for a local cause that matters. On Thursday, 24 July, Warriewood families are invited to United Cinemas for a special screening of The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, a movie night fundraiser for Inherited Cancers Australia (ICA). The event supports a $10,000 goal to fund an October trek across Tasmania’s Bay of Fires, helping families facing inherited cancer risks.
A Community‑led Mission
Organisers from Wellington Road and surrounding streets have pledged a 40 km trek along the Bay of Fires this October, aiming to raise crucial funds for ICA.

Since 2009 (formerly Pink Hope), ICA has been Australia’s only charity solely focused on inherited cancer, supporting families in understanding genetic risks, accessing screenings, and making decisions around prevention.
What ICA Does
- Inherited Cancer Support Service: free phone/video/email sessions with certified genetic counsellors
- Peer support: connecting people facing similar inherited risk to share real‑life insights.
With more than 2,600 participants in online support groups and over 100,000 resource downloads in 2023 alone, ICA’s impact is both broad and deeply personal.
Why Genetic Awareness Matters
Inherited mutations, like BRCA1 and BRCA2, can heighten breast cancer risk by up to 70%, and are linked to about 15% of cancers overall.
A Queensland oncologist urges family-history awareness and genetic testing, noting BRCA mutations can push breast and ovarian cancer risks into the 45–85% and 10–46% ranges respectively.
Timely testing can unlock preventive options, from treatment eligibility to surgical decision‑making, saving lives through early action.
