Austin Turpin, Fliptech

A young entrepreneur from Warriewood is making waves in the tech industry, transforming electronic waste into valuable resources.

Twenty-year-old Austin Turpin, the founder of Fliptech, has taken the tech world by storm. His journey began at the tender age of 15 when a simple trip to the local tip sparked an idea that would change his life.

Witnessing a mountain of discarded computers and electronic devices, Turpin recognised a significant environmental problem and a lucrative business opportunity. With the support of his family and a keen entrepreneurial spirit, he launched Fliptech from his family garage.

The company specialises in recycling end-of-life electronic devices like computers and servers. Fliptech collects these devices from businesses and government agencies, refurbishing and reselling usable components or recycling them responsibly. The company even extracts precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum from discarded electronics in a particularly innovative process.

Turpin’s commitment to sustainability is evident in his company’s mission to reduce electronic waste. He highlights the alarmingly low recycling rate of electronic devices in Australia, with only 17% recycled effectively. Fliptech aims to change this statistic by providing convenient and eco-friendly solutions for electronic disposal.

The company offers free or low-cost pickup services for end-of-life devices, ensuring that almost 100% of the collected electronics are recycled rather than ending up in landfills. Additionally, Fliptech donates some of its refurbished computers to charities, positively impacting the community.

As Turpin continues to expand his business, he remains dedicated to his vision of a sustainable future. With Fliptech, he is creating a profitable enterprise and contributing to a cleaner planet.
